What the COHAT price includes and what is billed separately
Three groups: what the COHAT price already covers, what the procedure needs but is billed separately, and treatment that is added only when needed.

Treatment cost — if it is needed
Treatment is part of COHAT, but its cost is calculated separately and depends on the procedures required and their scope.
- At the initial consultation I examine the patient and can outline the likely scope of treatment and its approximate cost.
- What treatment is actually needed can only be determined during full dental diagnostics and dental radiography.
- After diagnostics I explain what needs to be done and why, agree the plan with you — and its cost is added separately to the base COHAT fee.

Pricing questions
Imagine a price list that looked something like this:
- root planing — smoothing the root surface;
- raising a mucoperiosteal flap;
- apically positioned periodontal flap;
- gingivectomy;
- gingivoplasty;
- osteoplasty of the alveolar bone;
- ostectomy;
- alveoloplasty;
- use of osteoplastic or bone-substitute material;
- alveolar curettage;
- vital pulp therapy (VPT).
And that is only a small part of possible dental procedures.
The same procedure can also have several price options depending on how complex the case is, tooth anatomy, the extent of the work, the animal’s weight and other clinical factors. A single line item alone can have 3–5 price variants.
Even with a full price list, an owner cannot reliably tell which procedures their pet will actually need. Some dental problems cannot be seen at home, and some changes are not found even on a routine oral exam — they only show up during a full dental assessment and dental radiographs.
So adding things up from a large price list often only confuses: you may include procedures that will never be needed, and miss ones that become clear only after diagnostics.
That is why during a consultation after the exam I can outline the likely scope of treatment and give an approximate cost orientation. The final treatment plan and its cost are set only after a full dental assessment and dental radiographs.
No. The COHAT fee is a oral cavity sanitation protocol with diagnostics (including dental radiography within the protocol), not cosmetic tartar removal. Treatment when indicated and anaesthesia are billed separately.
The protocol includes time under anaesthesia for a full tooth-by-tooth assessment, oral cavity sanitation, periodontal examination, radiography, charting and a report. It is not a surface “clean without anaesthesia”.
Basic COHAT includes supra- and subgingival cleaning, AirPolishing, polishing, periodontal examination, assessment of every tooth, dental radiography within the protocol, a dental chart, a PDF report and an individual plan. If treatment is done during the procedure, local anaesthesia (dental nerve blocks) and a control radiograph are also included in COHAT.
Anaesthetic support, consultation, bloodwork and extra imaging when indicated, plus treatment such as extractions, endodontics, restorations, crowns, orthodontics and complex surgery.
A complete COHAT includes dental radiography because much pathology is hidden under the gums. Without films you cannot reliably assess roots and bone — I do not offer a “cheaper without X-ray” option as an equivalent.
Proper oral cavity sanitation with subgingival work and radiography requires general anaesthesia. Surface cleaning without anaesthesia does not replace COHAT and does not provide full diagnostics.
A single-tooth extraction fee cannot be quoted from a photo alone: complexity depends on roots, bone, inflammation and access. After diagnostics you receive an estimate before treatment starts.

Photos show only the visible crowns. Under the gums there may be pockets, resorption or root disease. The final plan follows examination under anaesthesia and radiography.
Yes. If diagnostics show no treatment is indicated, you pay for the COHAT protocol and anaesthetic support (plus consultation/tests if billed separately) — without extraction or other procedure fees.
